Windows Update Stuck or Failing, Why?

My Windows Update keeps getting stuck or failing halfway through, and it's been driving me nuts for days. I've tried restarting and running the troubleshooter, but nothing seems to fix it, so I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what's going on.

    Try clearing the update cache, see if it helps.

    In the administrative Command Prompt, execute these commands:

    net stop wuauserv

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    net start wuauserv
