Windows Detects Phantom Monitors That Are Not Connected
Windows keeps detecting phantom monitors that are not actually connected to my PC, and these ghost displays appear in Display Settings even though no cables are plugged into any video ports. I have tried restarting and unplugging everything, but the phantom monitors keep coming back, and I need help removing them permanently.

Windows can retain old monitor device instances, and docks, USB display adapters, remote-display software, or virtual display drivers can recreate them when no cable is attached. Disconnect every dock, dongle, adapter, and wireless display, restart, and check Settings > System > Display. If phantom screens remain, open Device Manager, choose View > Show hidden devices, expand Monitors, and uninstall only greyed-out entries you recognize as no longer present. Scan for hardware changes and restart. Inspect Display adapters for a clearly identified virtual or obsolete adapter, but do not remove the active GPU. Install current graphics and dock drivers from the PC or GPU manufacturer and apply Windows Update, including relevant optional drivers. If a ghost returns immediately, record its hardware ID and review installed remote-access, screen-sharing, USB graphics, or capture software. That recurring component, rather than the physical monitor list, is usually what must be updated, disabled, or removed.
