Windows 11 (Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000) Start Menu application error
I have very recently updated my laptop, from Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 Home on 11 November 2021, and after that update, I experienced the following problem:
My current operating system:
Microsoft x64-based Windows 11 Home
Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000
running on my
MSI GF65 Thin 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU/GeForce® GTX 16 Series gaming laptop
Reporting bug in
Windows 11 Start Menu
Software Application “Paint Shop Pro 9” (a Jasc Software Inc application)
Note: This bug is not an application bug, but a Windows 11 (Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000) Start Menu bug.
Problem
The Paint Shop Pro 9 icon in the Windows 11 Start Menu should have been preserved as a Shotcut (link, or .lnk) to the executable
C:\Program Files (x86)\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\Paint Shop Pro 9.exe
Instead, the Paint Shop Pro 9 icon in the Windows 11 Start Menu linked to
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Jasc Software\Paint Shop Pro 9.lnk
whose (erroneous) Target Type was not an Application (.exe) but instead was erroneously modified/reassigned/renamed (by ???, an unknown element in Windows 11) into an installer package file (MSI) Target Type,
C:\Program Files (x86)\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\Paint Shop Pro 9.msi
which does not exist in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\
or in sub-directories
Consequently, the resulting problem failed to execute and did not start-up Paint Shop Pro 9.exe, and thus caused an execution error, citing that Paint Shop Pro requires resources (.msi), which are not resident in the local program directory.
I manually fixed the problem as follows:
I had to create a new Shotcut (link, or .lnk) to the executable, and replaced
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Jasc Software\Paint Shop Pro 9.lnk
with the modified Paint Shop Pro 9.lnk (that correctly executed its Shotcut (link, or .lnk) to the executable (instead of the erroneous installer package file [MSI] Target Type).
Please investigate my Windows 11 error report, and update me on how it is fixed.
