Windows 11 update keeps getting stuck at 98%.
Stalling at 98% does not identify one cause; Windows may be finishing servicing or a driver, while low storage or a damaged update dependency can stop completion. If Windows is usable, restart normally, then open Settings > Windows Update > Update history and record update name, KB number, and error code. Disconnect USB devices, docks, and VPN software. Check Settings > System > Storage and use Cleanup recommendations to free space. Run Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update, apply its changes, and restart. Next open Command Prompt as administrator and run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, followed by sfc /scannow. Retry Windows Update once. If it stalls again, perform a clean boot and retry. Avoid repeatedly forcing the PC off during installation. Share the KB number, error code, Windows build, and whether the stall occurs before or after restart; those details determine the next supported step.
