Windows 11 search bar randomly stops working – can't type anything
Because Search stops accepting input before it can return results, rebuilding the index again is not the most useful next step. Your temporary recovery after restarting Explorer suggests investigating the Search interface, but it does not identify the underlying cause. When it fails, open Task Manager, select Details, end SearchHost.exe, and open Search again; Windows starts that process automatically. Record whether this restores typing. Microsoft also documents stopping and restarting Windows Font Cache Service as a separate troubleshooting step. If the fault returns, test Search in a newly created Windows account. A problem limited to your original account points toward its Search configuration. Microsoft's ResetWindowsSearchBox.ps1 is a documented next option for Windows 11; obtain it only from Microsoft and restore any execution-policy setting changed during its procedure. If both accounts fail, report the Windows build and reproduction details through Feedback Hub rather than repeatedly rebuilding the index.
