Significant hardware changes, like BIOS updates, can cause Windows to lose its activation, especially if the license was tied to the motherboard.
The license was never tied to a specific motherboard. The PC is a custom-built machine and, if I recall correctly, was upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 and then to Windows 11 using a Windows 7 Pro key.
And now, for some reason, that key—or rather, the license—can no longer be found in my Microsoft account.
