I want to make a virtual hard disk on Windows 11 to separate work files. How do I create one properly? After creating, does it show up in File Explorer like a real USB drive? Can I install programs on it?

Think of a VHD or VHDX file as a "fake hard drive" stored as a single file on your real disk. When you "mount" it, Windows treats it exactly like a real USB drive or internal hard drive—it gets its own drive letter, shows up in File Explorer, and you can use it normally.
