Windows 11 eats up my drive space

The biggest offenders are the Windows.old folder (40GB) and this mysterious file in C:\Windows folder with a name "D" (10 GB):

Are these really necessary?
Thanks in advance for any hint!

  • To free up space on Windows 11:

    1. Delete Windows.old:
      Use Disk Cleanup:
      • Search for "Disk Cleanup," select your C: drive, and choose Clean up system files.
      • Check Previous Windows installations and delete.
    2. Investigate the "D" File:
      • Check if it's a system or log file. If unnecessary, delete it or move it.
      • Use tools like TreeSize Free to analyze large files safely.

Backup important data before making changes!

Thanks! This "Clean Up Previous Installations" thing did the trick.

The mysterious "C:\Windows\D" is being used by System process so I am not able to delete it. And probably don't want to. Am I really the only Windows user in this planet to have such file? :-)
