Windows 11 cumulative update error : 0x800f081f

Hello,

I have over 300 workstations having an issue with cumulative updates. Every cumulative update ends with this error : : 0x800f081f (Wusa error 2148468767)

CBS log complains about missing .manifest files in the update. Extract from CBS.log :

Anyone seen this issue? Or anyone with a solution ?

Additional :

- other devices with this issue complain on other manifest files to like MediaPlayer...

- tried with the latest preview update with no result

- tried every other procedure to fix update service (start stop services an rename folders like SoftwareDistribution)

- tried removing antimalware (defender active)

- manifest file is not detected in cumulative update when extracting the msu file. So CBS log is right, ther manifest file is not there. Where does it come from then ?

- Seen not on one, but on over 300 of our devices.

On 6200 devices, both W10 & W11, we now have 300 devices with this issue. Cumulative updates not getting applied with the exact same error.

We're now starting inplace updates on affected devices. We tried many things. But we did not find a way to correct without performing inplace update.

Devices affected and repaired with inplace update, are sometimes again affected. Although it's a small number of devices, there are some.

Been experiencing the same issue for a few months now affecting various Windows 11 machines on 22H2 and 23H2. Only fix has been to do an in place upgrade which isn't easy when we want to push updates out via our endpoint management solution. Have you had any updates or found a fix?

Are there any errors with the CU updates after an inplace repair? Some clients are affected a second time.

    Frank,

We are currently battling the same issues with our Windows 11 systems. It's like the update packages detect a need to update a package, but the manifest file is missing. I've seen it all over the place from the Linux Subsystem feature, to Windows Media Player, to RSAT tools when these systems haven't ever had them installed. I don't know what's going on or what is causing the detection or need for these components to be updated and it not having what it needs to update them.

I'll run all the necessary 'dism' fixes and checks along with sfc.  Nothing seems to fix it.  Even if I manually import the necessary files from another workstation, it's still not happy.

    Have you figured anything out?

    JB
