Why is Add-WindowsCapability so slow for RSAT?
We install RSAT for our technicians by using: Get-WindowsCapability -Name RSAT* -Online | Add-WindowsCapability -Online The download/install is incredibly slow, averaging about ~15 minutes...
It takes almost an hour to install the .NET 2.0 feature. It takes 30 minutes+ to install the RSAT AD LDS feature.
This isn't just on Windows 11 either. On Server 2025 (and 2016 and 2019 too), it takes over 2 hours to install the IIS feature and several modules via Server Manager. This is on a blazing fast server with NVME drives and a good Xeon processor.
The reasons to move to Linux keep adding up.
Please fix the windowsCapability / windowsFeature stuff. This has been going on for years.
You are better off downloading the Features CAB file and installing locally from it. If you got RSAT features in less than days (and I mean plural) you are doing good. Mine took days. With the local copy of the cab for the install, it was minutes.
