Why does Windows 11 keep turning off Do Not Disturb after every restart?
Why does my Windows 11 PC keep disabling Do Not Disturb every time I restart, even though I turn it back on and it works fine until the next reboot? Why does it sometimes stay enabled for a day and then randomly turn off again, with no notification or explanation? Is this a known bug with the current build, or is there a setting or third-party app that keeps overriding it?
And is there a way to lock it on permanently so I don't have to toggle it every single time?

Windows 11 often re-enables Do Not Disturb after restart due to automatic rules. Go to Settings > System > Notifications > Turn on do not disturb automatically and uncheck all options (games, full-screen, schedules). This usually stops the reset.

Check the automatic rules first. Do Not Disturb can be controlled by a schedule or a Focus session, so the toggle alone does not tell you what is managing it. The behavior you describe is not enough to identify a particular Windows bug.
Open Settings > System > Notifications > Turn on do not disturb automatically:
- Check During these times. If a schedule is enabled, its end time may explain why notifications return.
- Check whether you are starting Focus sessions. Focus can turn Do Not Disturb on for the session, which is different from keeping it on continuously.
- For coverage throughout the day, enable the schedule, choose Daily, and set it to 00:00–23:59. This leaves a one-minute gap, so it is a practical workaround rather than a permanent lock.
If your goal is simply to stop notifications altogether, turn off the main Notifications switch at Settings > System > Notifications instead. That is the more direct setting for keeping Windows notification banners quiet across restarts. It does not control every app’s own pop-up windows.
If you prefer Do Not Disturb, also review Set priority notifications: allowed calls, reminders and apps can still interrupt you even while it is on. If an enabled daily schedule itself is being switched off after restarting, that points to a settings problem worth reporting with your Windows build; do not assume an app is responsible without evidence.
Try executing this command in admin Command Prompt:
reg add “HKCU\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QuietHours” /v “Enabled” /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
