Why does my laptop freeze only when I use battery power?

My laptop freezes unexpectedly only when I am running on battery power, while it works fine when plugged in. The issue occurs randomly during normal use and forces me to restart the device, but it never happens when connected to AC power.

    Please try these steps to restore power plans to defaults, see if it helps:

    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Click View by > Small icons.
    3. Click on Power Options.
    4. Click Change plan settings.
    5. Then go to Change advanced power settings. 
    6. Hit Restore plan defaults.
    7. Click on Yes in the confirmation window > OK.
