When renaming files on desktop then moving to next file on desktop it instead goes to recycle bin

Hi, this problem just started this week probably from the latest update. I download files on my desktop to name them and put them in the correct folder. Suddenly when I rename one file and go to move down to the next file it instead moves to just below the recycle bin at the top left of the desktop. This is incredibly disrupting when trying to rename all of my files. Is there a fix to this issue? Thank you for your time.
