If the webcam works in the Windows Camera app, the hardware and basic driver are probably working. The issue is more likely an app-specific permission, the wrong camera being selected, or another program already using the webcam.
Try these steps:
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Turn on Camera access and Let apps access your camera.
- Make sure the affected Microsoft Store app is enabled in the application list.
- For programs such as Zoom, Teams or other traditional desktop software, also enable Let desktop apps access your camera. Desktop applications are usually controlled by this single switch rather than individual toggles.
- Open the affected application’s video settings and select the physical webcam instead of a virtual camera or another imaging device.
- Close the Camera app, browsers, meeting applications and virtual-camera software before testing again. Some webcams cannot be used by multiple applications at the same time.
For a browser-based service, check the browser separately. In Edge, open edge://settings/content/camera, select the correct webcam and confirm that the website is not in the blocked list.
If permission settings are correct, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, open the affected app’s Advanced options, and try Repair followed by Reset if available. Updating or reinstalling only the affected app is more relevant than reinstalling the webcam driver when the Camera app already works.
Please check and verify Camera privacy settings for individual appsa at Settings app > Privacy & security > Camera > Let apps access your camera.
