Update for Windows Security Platform - broke my computer
Hello all.
I went to apply the following update to my computer:
Update for Windows Security platform - KB5007651 (Version 10.0.29573.1002)
Upon restart I could no longer use the start menu. When I would click on it, the menu would come on the screen and disappear in two seconds. Any attempt to click on the User or the Power Icon would do nothing.
I tried rebooting using the command prompt and it was still broken after the reboot. Tried using DSIM and it kept getting stuck at 62.3 %. Finally just restored from backup and everything worked again.
I know it's an important update, but if the computer is useless afterwards - what's the point?
Anybody else experience this and how did you resolve it?

In Settings > Windows Update, pause updates and uninstall KB5007651, and wait for Microsoft to release a fix.

Booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling KB5007651 has fixed the issue for some, since it prevents the broken components from loading.
Hi, since restoring fixed it, I’d pause that update briefly and try again after checking for newer cumulative updates and GPU/chipset drivers. If you retry, create a restore point first, then install only that update and watch Reliability Monitor afterward. If DISM hangs again around the same point, run it offline or from Windows Recovery, because the component store may be getting stuck during repair
