Snipping Tool

I have Windows 11 Home.  I've been using Snipping Tool since Windows 10 came out and it had been working very well with Windows 11 since I installed it when it first came out.  All of a sudden, this week, it stopped working for some unknown reason so I uninstalled the app and tried to download a new .exe Snipping Tool file from Microsoft but it wouldn't download.  I waited and waited but it kept telling me that it was still downloading.  After about 15 minutes, I stopped it because I knew that it shouldn't take anywhere near that long to download.

I ran several anti-malware programs, an online scanner, and MS Malicious Software Removal Tool and they all found 0 infected files.

Is there anything that I can try to get the Snipping Tool to download and install?

    Hi,

Thanks for responding and your instructions..

I did download the Snipping Tool from MS Store.  After the first couple of attempts failed, I kept trying to download it and eventually it did download and I installed it.  I didn't change any settings for it to finally download so I'm as puzzled as anyone else as to why the last attempt downloaded it.

I'm going to follow your instructions for resetting MS Store, though, so that a similar problem won't happen in the future.

  • Hi Denise,

this is known issue after some updates or upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 and easy to fix. From where you install the new app? Store?

    Here what you can do:

    Boot/start the device new.

In case your store download still not work try reset Microsoft Store.

Open Windows Search and enter WSReset.exe. Click on the corresponding option to execute the command. A black window will open. Wait until it closes on its own and the Microsoft Store reopens. Then try downloading the app again.

    Reinstall the app again.

For the next time this may happend:

Repair or reset if Snipping tool is still in the Apps

Go to Settings then Apps and select “Snipping Tool,” then “Advanced options,” and try the ‘Repair’ function first.

The advanced settings you find at the app entrie at the rigth end the 3 dots

If that doesn't help, select “Reset” (note that this will delete your preferences)

    Best
