Recent Windows crashes daily, 0xc0000409 error code shown by Windows Debugging Tool

I have seen a few mentions of the above error code coming up in articles here.  My system has been restarting on its own 3 times in the past few days, and running the Problem Reports shows as a BlueScreen event name. I have the Windows Debugging Tool (WinDbg) and the error code shows, but the processes are not the same for all occasions. The message shows this for all 3 times:

KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (139) A kernel component has corrupted a critical data structure. The corruption could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine.

For 2 of the crashes, the process name is "hp-plugin-exec", but for the third, it is "System".

I can try copying the information from the debugging tool; it is a lot.

  • Your three restarts share bug check 0x139, KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, even though the reported process changes. That bug check means Windows detected corruption of a critical kernel data structure. The warning about possible malicious exploitation is not evidence that someone has compromised your computer.
Please share a focused summary rather than the entire debugger output. Run !analyze -v for each dump and include the bug-check arguments, especially parameter 1, plus STACK_TEXT, MODULE_NAME, IMAGE_NAME, and FAILURE_BUCKET_ID when present. Also include the Windows build and recent driver or hardware changes.
Parameter 1 identifies the corruption category, which determines the next investigation. The process name alone is insufficient to blame HP software: Microsoft notes that some corruption is detected after it occurs. Comparing all three stacks may reveal a recurring driver. Preserve the dumps and share them privately with support if needed, since memory dumps can contain sensitive information.
