Proposal: Native Windows Boot Monitor to track real-time startup processes
Hello,
I would like to propose a new diagnostic feature for Windows: a Boot Monitor tool that shows in real time when the system is actually ready and which services/drivers are still starting in the background.
Currently, available tools only provide partial or post-boot information:
BootRacer stops measuring when the desktop appears, but many services (e.g., OneDrive for Business, delayed services, cloud sync) continue loading afterwards.
Event Viewer and WPR/WPA provide logs, but only after the boot has completed, and they are too technical for most users.
The proposed Boot Monitor would:
Integrate with the Windows Service Control Manager and ETW,
Show a timeline of drivers and services during startup,
Indicate the exact time when the system is fully ready, not just when the desktop appears.
This would help users and IT admins identify which components delay startup, optimize configuration, and troubleshoot performance issues — in a safe and official way (avoiding third-party low-level drivers, which are blocked by Secure Boot).
Thank you for considering this suggestion!
