Opening 27 Browser Tabs and Forgetting Which One Has the Music
This is usually a browser-level issue rather than a Windows audio fault. Start by looking for the speaker or media indicator on each browser tab; most current browsers mark the tab playing sound and let you mute it directly. Open the browser’s media controls, if available, to identify the active source without visiting every tab. Then check Windows Volume Mixer to confirm which browser process is producing audio; this can distinguish a browser tab from a separate desktop application. If the sound continues after all browser tabs are muted or closed, check the notification area and Task Manager for another media app. Avoid ending random processes, because that can lose work in unrelated applications. If a particular website repeatedly autoplays media, use that site’s permissions or browser autoplay controls instead of changing global Windows sound settings.
