My Computer freezes and crashes
My computer frequently freezes and crashes unexpectedly, often during regular use or when running certain applications. Despite restarting and troubleshooting, the problem persists, causing loss of work and frustration. The system sometimes shows error messages or becomes unresponsive for several minutes before crashing completely. I am seeking advice on how to identify the root cause of these crashes, improve system stability, and prevent future freezes to ensure smooth and reliable performance.

If diagnostics point to failing hardware, replacing RAM, hard drive, or other components may be necessary.

The photo confirms a Windows blue-screen crash, not just a frozen program. The stop code and “What failed” line are too blurred to identify, so the first useful step is to make Windows leave the blue screen on screen long enough to record them.
Open Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Startup and Recovery > Settings, then clear Automatically restart. On the next crash, take a clear photo of the Stop code and What failed lines. Those two details usually point to the next step.
Back up important files, then check Reliability History from the Start menu for the red critical event at the same time as the crash. Update Windows and install current graphics, chipset, storage, and network drivers from the PC manufacturer’s website. Avoid driver-updater tools and disconnect non-essential USB devices while testing.
Next, search for mdsched.exe and run Windows Memory Diagnostic. Then open Terminal as Administrator and run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth sfc /scannow chkdsk /scan
If the PC still blue-screens in Safe Mode or during the memory test, the problem is more likely hardware, such as RAM, the drive, overheating, or the power supply. Post the exact stop code and failed-driver name before reinstalling Windows or replacing parts.
