ms edge icons changed

Can anyone help me find out why my theme and edge icons have changed randomly on their own to a white box with a blue square in the middle?  I have done multiple web searches and deleted the icon cache and restarted among other suggestions.  All the latest updates to win 11.  see the pic.

I manually changed every edge icon back to the edge icon via the properties box and it lasts for a few days and then changes to the image above.

Windows 11 version 23H2

It's been happening to me as well for the last 6 months... Quick but temporary fix is to go to Edge "Settings" and then "Appearance" and change the theme to anything and then back to default.  There is no need to change each icon manually.  Then, randomly, it will change back a day later or weeks later - I have no idea what triggers this to happen.  It is shocking that all this time has passed, and multiple people have reported the issue, yet Microsoft has not addressed it.

So far, I haven't seen it happen again since upgrading from Win 11 23H2 to 24H2.

Still doing it for me on 24H2... But there is a new update today 24H2, so maybe it will fix.

I'm having the exact same problem. Also on 23H2. My Edge shortcuts on the desktop will randomly change to that icon. I'll then set Firefox as the default browser to change to icon to something else then set Edge as the default browser to change the icon back. Then a few days later, it'll happen again.

If after trying all these steps you’re still facing the same issue, it might be worth reaching out to Microsoft Support for more specialized help. Additionally, make sure to keep regular backups of your data in case something goes wrong during troubleshooting.

Do you have third-party app installed to tweak the theme?

I don't think it's anything like that, I have nothing 3rd party theme related, and this just randomly happens.  Each time I have to go to Edge settings and change the theme to something else, then back again, and it fixes.  Then, a week or so later, randomly, it will happen again.

Thank you for your reply. There are no third party apps that I know of.  From my observation, it only changes the edge icons on the desktop.
