Looking for a best alternative to disk drill for data recovery, any recommendations?
Hey, I've been looking for file recovery software recently, and I found that disk drill is a bit unreliable! So I want to ask everyone: is there a great alternative to disk drill?
I encountered a situation where I accidentally deleted an important work folder. After scanning with disk drill, I only found some cache files, and didn't find what I wanted at all. And the scanning speed is super slow and it will get stuck! ðŸ˜
My scenario is: Windows 11, the file was deleted from an NTFS hard drive, and the data volume is about 10GB. Has anyone used a more reliable alternative software to disk drill? For example, a tool that can perform deep scanning, support more file formats, and has a higher recovery rate? If it is a free or cost-effective paid tool, it would be even better! Please recommend, I really need it!
I tried Disk Drill app in the past but it couldn't find the deleted word documents and photos. Fortunately, I am able to recover the deleted by following the steps in this tutorial: https://www.cnetie.com/best-alternative-to-disk-drill

With your own debacle with Disk Drill, pausing and resuming scans, locking up the operating system and failure to access a 10 GB work folder on an NTFS Windows 11 drive, there exists a desperate need to recover an effective stable data recovery tool. BLR data recovery software is a better professional solution in such cases where precision and high level of success rate is not a choice.
And why is BLR Data Recovery Software TOP Recommendation?
- Incomparable Deep Scanning - capabilities matched to the deep scanning with BLR Data Recovery cannot be met with tools that may only scan surface or reconstruct only fragmented files of the cache files. This deep scan technology will go through your NTFS hard drive in detail looking to uncover those deleted files and reconstruct its original structure bringing a much greater likelihood that your complete 10GB work folder can be found rather than just some pieces of it.
- High Recovery Rate: BLR Data Recovery is developed to retrieve wide variations of files such as documents, images, videos, audio, emails, and others. And along with its high-tech recovery engine, this thorough backing means a provable increase in recovery rates of different data loss situations, be it accidentally deleted files, formatted files, or even files lost to corruption or partition problem issues. It is designed to retrieve data even on difficult conditions which other software may not perform.
- Optimum Performance and Efficiency: As you complained of poor and stagnant programs, BLR Data Recovery is optimally tuned in regard to performance. It has a powerful scanning system that can process volumes of data without any freezing problems making the process of recovery easier on the Windows 11 machines. This implies there will be reduced waiting time and quality results.
- Elegantly Designed Interface with Pro Power: BLR Data Recovery has a sophisticated set of features but it is user friendly and easy to operate. This is so that even amateurs can use its best features successfully to conduct a deep scan, preview files that can be recovered, and restore their personal data that they have lost with ease.
- Professional Data Recovery at Affordable Prices: Although BLR Data Recovery provides professional data recovery capabilities, there are numerous cost-effective licensing options to fit any budget, with a free trial version that lets you see some of the files that BLR can recover prior to purchasing. That is why it is a simple source of power and accessible to any individual user or business.
When software fails to help: BLR Tools Lab Data Recovery
It should be noted that any software, despite the level of development, has its limits, particularly with regard to serious physical damage of a hard drive (e.g., head crashes, motor failures or other serious platter damage) or sophisticated logical corruption where the drive is not recognized by any software. In this type of extreme circumstance, trying to recover any more with software may indeed make the situation worse.
In such extremely difficult cases, BLR Tools provides unique data recovery services within a hi-tech laboratory setting. They have their team of professional engineers, using proprietary tools, cleanroom conditions and techniques, that physically recover damaged drives and recover information that would otherwise be unrecoverable. Importantly, BLR Tools is working on a policy of a 100 percent no recovery, no charges policy of their lab services.
This is a professional guarantee that requires payment only in cases where they successfully recover your data guaranteeing full peace of mind and devoid of financial risk in those cases where the data cannot be recovered. This also qualifies them as a trustworthy backup when all other options, software ones included, are already used because of the physical integrity of the drive.

Windows File Recovery is a great alternative to Disk Drive on Windows 11. It is a powerful, free data recovery tool developed by Microsoft, designed to help users recover lost or deleted files on Windows operating systems. Introduced in March 2020, it serves as a robust alternative to third-party data recovery solutions like Disk Drill, especially for users seeking a cost-effective and reliable method to retrieve their lost data without relying on external software vendors. Unlike traditional graphical user interface (GUI) data recovery tools, Windows File Recovery operates through the Command Prompt, offering advanced users granular control over the recovery process.
Why is Windows File Recovery a Great Alternative to Disk Drill?
- Unlike Disk Drill, which offers both free and paid versions with varying feature sets, Windows File Recovery is entirely free. This eliminates the financial barrier for users needing basic to intermediate data recovery.
- As a Microsoft-developed tool, it integrates seamlessly with the Windows operating system, ensuring better compatibility and stability.
- Reduces the risk of software conflicts and maintains system integrity.
- Provides multiple recovery modes tailored to different data loss situations, similar to or exceeding what Disk Drill offers.
- Capable of recovering fragmented files, which is crucial for comprehensive data retrieval.
How to Use Windows File Recovery:
Using Windows File Recovery requires familiarity with the Command Prompt and understanding of command-line operations. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the tool effectively.
Press Win + X and select "Windows Terminal (Admin)" or "Command Prompt (Admin)". In the Command Prompt window, type winfr followed by necessary parameters and press Enter.
winfr source-drive: destination-folder [/mode] [/switches]
- source-drive: The drive letter where the lost files were located (e.g., C:, D:).
- destination-folder: The folder where recovered files will be saved. Note: Must be on a different drive than the source to prevent overwriting data.
- /mode: Specifies the recovery mode (Regular, Extensive, Segment).
- /switches: Additional options to refine the recovery process (e.g., specifying file types).
Windows File Recovery stands out as a robust, free alternative to third-party data recovery tools like Disk Drill, especially for users who are technically adept and seeking a cost-effective solution. Its integration with the Windows operating system ensures reliable performance and compatibility

I can relate to this! Disk Drill isn’t always reliable, sometimes it misses important files, and its scanning speed is crazy. I’ve been in a similar situation before, where I accidentally deleted a large folder and spent a whole day searching for it with Disk Drill, but I couldn’t find it at all!
Looking for a free alternative to Disk Drill? No problem! While free tools may have limited functionality, you can still recover a lot of data if you use the right method.
