Laptop (Win 11) powers on only plugged in

My laptop only powers on when it is connected to the AC adapter, but as soon as I unplug the charger, the system immediately shuts down, even though the battery icon sometimes shows a remaining charge. I have already tried recalibrating the battery, checking power settings, and updating the BIOS, but the issue persists, so I am wondering if this is a failing battery, a faulty charging circuit, or a software problem that can be resolved without replacing the hardware.

Locate the generated report (usually saved in your user folder) and review the battery health status, cycle count, and capacity.

  • Hi, this sounds more like a battery, charging circuit, or firmware issue than a Windows setting. Run the laptop manufacturer’s hardware diagnostics and check battery health. Updating BIOS/firmware may help, but if the system instantly dies when unplugged, the battery or power circuitry likely needs service.
