Laptop Going to Sleep While You Are Still Using It

My laptop keeps going to sleep even while I am actively using it, which is incredibly frustrating. This happens during normal tasks like typing, watching videos, or browsing, and it seems to ignore my power settings entirely, so I need help figuring out why it sleeps mid-use and how to stop it.

If your laptop is hibernating instead of sleeping, open Command Prompt as Administrator and run powercfg.exe /hibernate off .

If your laptop is a relatively new model, it likely uses Modern Standby instead of traditional sleep. This means the system stays partially active in a low-power state, and closing the lid triggers sleep immediately, regardless of your Windows power settings .
