is it safe to disable processor performence boost mode?
hihi, some background on this, my laptop was reaching quite high temps at times at it really did scare me. to battle this, i ended up undervolting my cpu by like 60 and when finding other solutions, i stumbled upon this video. it definately does work, but im unsure if disabling this was safe? i understand my performence will go down to due this and im fine with experimenting with it, but i was just wondering if this was even a good idea? both used to be at "aggresive", but ive changed that now. is this safe?
- JonathanoisCopper ContributorYou might experience lower performance in demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, or other CPU-intensive applications. Performance Boost can provide additional clock speed when needed, enhancing responsiveness.
- EmilyCowCopper ContributorDisabling performance boost modes does not pose a safety risk in and of itself. Your CPU will simply operate at its base clock speeds without the ability to temporarily increase performance under load.
- EommyBrass ContributorVoltage is within the range recommended by the hardware manufacturer.
Monitor system temperature and stability and adjust voltage gradually.
Back up important data just in case.
When unsure, consult a professional or restore default settings.
Also, consider other cooling methods, such as improving heat dissipation, using cooling software, or checking power management settings. Exercise caution to avoid permanent damage to your computer.
