HP Smart Tank 790 All-in-One Scanner is not recognized any more
Greetings. I have an HP i7 Pavilion x36-dh1004nx running Windows 11 Ver. 26H2 (OS Build 26300.9550. I'm having a serious problem with my HP Smart tank 790 connected via USB. The scanner stopped working since one week (before it was working fine), and when I run HP Smart, it displays a message that it's not connected (below is a screen shot). While the printer status is working, the scanner is not!!. It tried to remove it and install it again, installed the latest driver (July 2026 ver) from HP site, but no success.
I ran the control panel, it showed the scanner is not appearing. When I click on the ? icon, it open a web page about Windows Protect Mode!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure what is this, but for whatever reason, this thing is stopping me from using the Scanner. Any help to get my HP Smart Tank 790 All-in-one printer Scanner working.
The below screen is from HP SMart app.

Greeting Jamony, Thank you for the reply. I did what you've stated by the 2nd paragraph (Power ...), yet no success. I use the USB port of the printer and could scan and save to it. But I still couldn't do it from the laptop. I don't know what is the issue, but it seems it's related to Windows driver for this printer. Again, I red about the Windows Protected Print Mode, and my printer wasn't listed as you can see from below. I tried to turn it off, but also there is no option. I have no clue what is the problem, because it was working before one week, before a Window update installed!!!

I don't have the option to ""TURN OFF"" as below
The screenshots show that HP Smart sees the printer function but Windows is not exposing a scanner endpoint, so the Protected Mode help page is probably incidental. Power off the device, unplug it for 30 seconds, then connect it directly to another USB port with a known-good cable. In Settings, open Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the HP device, and check whether Scanner settings appears. If not, remove the device, restart Windows, and add it again; test with Windows Scan before reopening HP Smart. Run the printer/scanner troubleshooter in Get Help and reinstall HP’s full scanning package, not only the print driver. If Windows still cannot discover the scanner, test network scanning or another computer. Failure everywhere points to the device or cable; success elsewhere points to this Windows build or driver, which HP should investigate using the hardware ID.
