Disadvantages of transferring iPhone photos to external hard drive from Windows 11: The external hard drive needs to be formatted in a way that Windows can read it. If you're using a drive formatted for Mac (e.g. HFS+), you may hit a wall. Even if you switch to exFAT for cross-compatibility, you may run into issues with file size or permissions. You don't want to find out mid-transfer that you can't actually write to the drive!
Before starting the transfer, the best thing to do is to check the external drive for errors using Windows' built-in tools. Simply right-click the drive in File Explorer and go to Properties > Tools > Check to fix any potential issues before transferring.
