How to print a password protect PDF that won't let you print?
Can't print password protected pdf? The most reliable free method uses your computer's built-in print function to create a new, unrestricted copy of the pdf file. It works because the new file you create doesn't inherit the printing restrictions from the original.
Here's how to do it on your Mac:
Step 1. Open the pdf: Open the restricted pdf file in any viewer that lets you see its content, such as the Mac's built-in Preview app or a web browser like Google Chrome or Safari.
Step 2. Open the Print Dialog: With the document open, go to the File menu and select Print, or simply press Command + P on your keyboard.
Step 3. Choose "Save as pdf": In the print dialog box, look for a pdf button (usually located in the bottom-left corner). Click it and select Save as pdf.
Step 4. Save the New File: Give your new pdf a name and choose where to save it. This new copy will not have the printing restrictions of the original, and you should be able to print it normally.
Important Note: This method works best for pdfs that only have printing restrictions, not for files that require a password just to open them. Also, keep in mind that this "Print to pdf" trick can sometimes cause a loss of interactive elements like fillable form fields or hyperlinks.
If the PDF has an "open password" (you can't even see the document without it), this methods can't print password protected pdf. You will always need that password first to unlock the file for viewing.
