The safest way to move the Windows recovery partition to the end of a disk is by using professional partition management software, since Windows built-in Disk Management cannot move partitions directly.
Step 1. Back Up Your Data
- Always create a full system backup with File History, OneDrive, or third-party imaging tools.
- This protects against data loss if the partition move fails.
Step 2. Check Your Current Disk Layout
- Press Win + X → choose Disk Management.
- Locate the recovery partition and confirm its size and position.
Step 3. Use a Partition Manager
- Windows Disk Management allows shrinking and extending partitions but cannot move them.
- To relocate the recovery partition safely, use trusted third-party partition tools.
- In third-party partition tools, select the recovery partition → choose Move/Resize → drag it to the end of the disk → apply changes.
Step 4. Reboot and Verify
- The PC may restart to complete the operation.
- After the move, check Disk Management to confirm the recovery partition is at the end.
Tips & Best Practices
Do not interrupt the process once it begins—power loss can corrupt partitions.
Avoid resizing the recovery partition; only move it.
Keep a Windows installation USB ready in case recovery functions stop working.
