How does Phone Link know my iPhone's battery level?
I think it's a little strange, but also pretty cool. Still, that doesn't make sense—I don't recall Bluetooth transmitting that kind of battery data.

It is normal Bluetooth data, rather than Phone Link estimating the charge level. Bluetooth Low Energy defines a standard Battery Service, and accessories can expose a percentage through a GATT characteristic. iOS decides what it exposes to a paired device and when; Phone Link reads the value that is available through the approved iPhone pairing path and then displays it.
That is also why the number may be delayed, unavailable after a reconnect, or update less often than the percentage shown on the iPhone itself. It is not a continuous read of the phone's power system, and it does not give the PC access to battery-health details, charging history, or other private device information. For a normal paired iPhone, though, seeing its battery percentage in Phone Link is expected behavior.
Some devices send detailed battery information for user awareness or app integration.

Microsoft requires Bluetooth Low Energy for the iPhone connection and lists battery and connectivity status as supported information. Bluetooth LE can exchange values through GATT services and characteristics; Microsoft also documents a standard Battery Service and Battery Level characteristic for Windows-capable Bluetooth devices. In practical terms, Phone Link receives a battery value through the paired Bluetooth relationship and displays it; it is not estimating 95% from signal strength. To verify the path, turn Bluetooth off temporarily on either device and watch the status stop updating, then reconnect and confirm it refreshes. Keep Windows, Phone Link, and iOS current. If the value becomes stale, remove the pairing on both devices and pair again. Microsoft does not document the exact Apple-side characteristic Phone Link uses, so a more specific claim would be speculation.
