How can I install Windows 11 on any HP laptop or desktop?

My company has several HP laptops and desktops to be upgraded to Windows 11. Unfortunately, some of them are non-compatible devices with Windows 11. How can I install windows 11 on any HP laptop? Is there any universal solution to both supported and unsupported HP devices?

Some of the models are:

  • HP Envy X360
  • HP Elitedesk 800 G2
  • HP Probook 450
  • HP Z840

Much appreciated for any input!

  • Since your device isn’t fully supported, Windows 11 might crash or freeze more often. It’s kinda like trying to run a high-end game on a not-so-great PC—you might get some hiccups. Microsoft might not roll out updates properly. Sometimes, updates can break things or cause compatibility issues, especially on unsupported hardware.

    When you installing Windows 11 on HP laptop, bypass TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot can leave your system more vulnerable. These features are there to keep your device safe, so turning them off isn't the best idea security-wise. Some features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or even touchscreens might not work right. In my experience, unsupported hardware can act flaky or stop working after a while. You might notice that your laptop runs slower or behaves unpredictably since it’s not designed for Windows 11.

    If something goes wrong when install Windows 11 on HP laptop, you could lose important files or face a corrupted OS. Always back up before messing around with unsupported installs.

    Here is another workaround to help you install Windows 11 on hp laptop from USB if the device is not compatible with Windows 11.

    Connect the bootable USB to computer and choose the drive name form boot menu. Now, begin installation of Windows from your installation media. At the first static screen where Windows setup requests information from you during setup, press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.

    Type regedit and hit ENTER. Add the following entries:

    Close the Registry Editor and the command prompt. Continue installation normally.

    NOTE: This registry setting bypasses the need for a supported CPU and a TPM 2.0 but a TPM 1.2 would still be needed. If you still do not meet this requirement, then please follow the steps in other replies instead.

    Installing Windows 11 on an HP laptop or desktop isn’t inherently dangerous, make sure your HP device meets the Windows 11 system requirements, If it doesn’t, you might run into trouble or performance issues. Sometimes, HP laptops might have certain BIOS/UEFI settings that need tweaking to get Windows 11 to install smoothly.

    In my own experience (and from what I’ve seen others do), if your hardware is compatible and you follow the proper steps, it’s pretty safe. Just back up all your important stuff first—better safe than sorry, right? Also, keep your BIOS/firmware updated before installing, since that can help avoid compatibility hiccups.

    A heads up: some HP laptops might have driver issues or hardware features that aren’t fully supported yet on Windows 11, so you might encounter a few bugs or missing features initially. But overall, if your machine is compatible, installing Windows 11 on HP laptop shouldn’t be a big deal or dangerous—just remember to do your homework first.

    The list HP models are not compatible with Windows 11 system requirements. Some of them lack TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. You have to bypass Windows 11 system requirements and install Windows 11 on unsupported HP laptop.

    Step 1: Create a new text file on your HP laptop.

    Step 2: Copy and paste the following content to the text file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PCHC]
    "UpgradeEligibility"=dword:0000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup]
    "AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU"=dword:0000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig]
    "BypassRAMCheck"=dword:0000001
    "BypassSecureBootCheck"=dword:0000001
    "BypassTPMCheck"=dword:0000001

    Step 3: Change the file extension from .txt to .reg.

    Step 4: Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    Step 5: When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge. This will help you install Windows 11 on non-compatible HP laptop.

    Note: If you are unsure if your device meets the Windows 11 minimum system requirements and have Windows 10 already installed, you can download the PC Health Check app, which will assess eligibility and identify components of your device that don't meet the minimum requirements. The app will also link to info that details steps you can take to make your device meet the minimum system requirements.

    HP Envy X360 hardware specs:

    • AMD Ryzen 5 2500U
    • 2000GB HDD
    • 32GB DDR4
    • AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 (R2000/3000, 15W)

    According to Windows 11 specs, the processor is not supported by Windows 11. If  the CPU of HP laptop or desktop is too old,  one possible solution to install Windows 11 is to upgrade the processor to a new one and this is quite easy.

    However, you can also install Windows 11 on unsupported HP laptop by applying some tricks in registry.

    Step 1: Open Windows Terminal (Admin), and select Command Prompt.

    Step 2: Copy and paste each command below one at a time into Windows Terminal (Admin), and press Enter after each command.

    This will help you install Windows 11 on any HP laptop and desktop no matter the hardware specs meet Windows 11 requirements or not!

    Before installing Windows 11 on HP laptop, make sure your HP PC actually meets Windows 11’s hardware requirements. Things like TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are must-haves. I’ve seen folks jump straight into the install and then hit a wall because their machine isn’t compatible — super frustrating. Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check tool or HP’s own tools to verify. Sometimes, your BIOS settings need a quick tweak. Make sure TPM is enabled and Secure Boot is turned on. If you forget this, Windows 11 might refuse to install or run properly. Been there, done that — had to dig into BIOS and toggle those settings.

    HP laptops and desktops sometimes have specific drivers that aren’t immediately available for Windows 11. Installing the OS without checking HP’s support site for compatible drivers can cause hardware issues later. Best to check HP’s support page for your model before upgrading. Never underestimate the power of a good backup. I’ve seen people lose their files because they skipped this step. Use an external drive or cloud backup just in case something goes sideways during the install.

    Download Windows 11 only from official sources like Microsoft’s website if you want to install Windows 11 on HP laptop. Using sketchy or unofficial ISOs can lead to corrupted installs or security risks. Also, make sure your USB drive is prepared properly for a smooth installation. After Windows 11 is up and running, hop on Windows Update to grab the latest patches. Sometimes, drivers or security updates are crucial for smooth operation on HP machines.

    Installing Windows 11 on HP laptops and desktops, especially those that are officially non-compatible, can be approached with caution and awareness of potential risks. Microsoft’s official requirements for Windows 11 include specific hardware features (such as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot), and bypassing these may lead to system instability or security issues. That said, here are some methods and considerations for installing Windows 11 on HP laptop, both supported and unsupported:

    1. Check Compatibility and Backup Data
    * Before proceeding, back up critical data.
    * Use the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft or WhyNotWin11 (a community tool) to assess hardware compatibility.
    * Understand that unsupported devices may experience driver or stability issues.

    2. Official Methods for Supported Devices
    * For compatible hardware, you can create a Windows 11 installation media:
    * Download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website.
    * Create a bootable USB drive.
    * Boot from the USB and follow the installation prompts.

    3. Bypassing Compatibility Checks (for Unsupported Devices)
    * To attempt installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, you can modify the installation process:
    * When installing Windows 11, at the "This PC can’t run Windows 11" screen:
    * Press Shift + F10 to open Command Prompt.
    * Run the following commands to open Registry Editor: regedit
    Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup
    * Create a new key named LabConfig.
    * Inside LabConfig, create the following DWORD entries and set their values to 1:
    * BypassTPMCheck
    * BypassSecureBootCheck
    * AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU
    * Close Registry Editor and continue the installation.
