I also face this problem and it is my single biggest gripe with Windows at the moment. My hardware is aware of the position, it disables the keyboard when it is folded under (but I believe that is a Lenovo customization). All I want is an option somewhere that says "If orientation is such that sensor is inaccessible, do not attempt to use that sensor and fall back to the next choice"
Ironically I triggered this exact bug logging into this forum to complain.
