Does Windows 11 Upgrade Assistant Work on Old Computers?
Finding a Windows 11 upgrade assistant for your old computer can be quite a challenge. If you prefer not to download any third-party tools, there's a clever manual method that involves a single command. This method was confirmed to work on PCs with as little as 2GB RAM and no TPM.
1. Download the Official ISO: Go to Microsoft's website and download the official Windows 11 disk image (ISO) for the version you want .
2. Mount the ISO: Double-click the downloaded ISO file to mount it as a virtual drive (note the drive letter, e.g., D:).
3. Open Admin Command Prompt: Press the Windows Key, type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt," and select "Run as administrator" .
4. Navigate and Execute: In the command prompt, type the drive letter of your mounted ISO followed by a colon (e.g., D:) and press Enter. Then, type the following command and press Enter :
setup.exe /product server
This command makes the Windows installer think it's installing a server version without Windows 11 upgrade assistant download, which does not enforce the same strict hardware rules . The setup will then launch, and you should be able to proceed. Crucially, when prompted, choose the option to "Keep personal files and apps" to perform an upgrade, not a clean install .
