Creating a Asahi Linux bootable USB can be a great way to dive into the world of Linux on Apple Silicon Macs. I’ve gone through the process.
- Make sure your USB drive is formatted correctly (usually as FAT32 or exFAT). If you go with NTFS or APFS, you might run into issues. So stick to FAT32 for compatibility!
- Double-check that you’re grabbing the right image specifically for your Mac model (Apple Silicon).
- Downloading the wrong version can lead to all sorts of headaches.
- If you're on Windows, don’t just slap the ISO onto the USB drive. You’ll need a tool to write the image properly. Rufus is a popular choice, but ensure that you’re selecting the correct settings (like "DD Image" mode if you’re using Rufus).
- Once you finish the writing process, don’t just yank the USB out. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature to avoid corrupting the data on the drive.
- Asahi Linux has its own documentation for installation. Skipping the read-through can lead you to miss some important instructions specific to your hardware.
