Can I download music from Spotify to my computer (Windows 11)?
I’m going on a long trip next week and would like to save a few Spotify playlists on my Windows 11 laptop so I can listen without Wi-Fi. I have Spotify Premium, but the desktop app’s download option seems to keep the music inside Spotify.
Is there a way to directly download songs from Spotify to computer as regular audio files, such as MP3s? I’d mainly use them offline on my laptop and copy a few tracks to a USB drive for my car.
I’m not very technical, so I’d prefer something straightforward and safe. What method do you use?

If you want permanent access to your favorite songs, buying the music is one of the most reliable options. Instead of depending on a streaming subscription, you can purchase downloadable tracks or albums and save the files directly to your computer.
How to download songs from Spotify to computer after buying
- Find the song or album on Spotify and note the artist + title.
- Search for the same release on a music store such as Bandcamp, Qobuz, Amazon Music, or the artist/label’s own store.
- Purchase the track or album there.
- Download the purchased file, usually as MP3, FLAC, WAV, or another supported format.
- Save a backup on your computer or external drive.
After purchase, you can now safely download songs from Spotify to computer. And the purchased music can usually be kept permanently, backed up, transferred between your devices, and played with your preferred music player. This is also a good choice for songs you listen to frequently and want to keep even if they are later removed from a streaming service.

Harmoni is an open-source desktop option for downloading music from spotify to a computer using Spotify playlist information. It supports batch processing and several output formats, including MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, OGG, and M4A, and can add metadata such as artist, album, and artwork.
For Spotify playlists, Harmoni can work with exported playlist data, and newer releases have improved Spotify track selection and playlist loading. It is available for Windows, with recent releases also adding macOS support.
You need to install the app first.
# Clone and install git clone https://github.com/Ssenseii/harmoni.git cd harmoni pip install -r requirements.txt # Run the GUI python gui_main.py # Or run the CLI python main.pyA typical workflow for downloading music from Spotify to computer is to import or load the Spotify playlist information, select the tracks, choose MP3 as the output format, and start the batch download to a local folder. Keep in mind that Harmoni uses Spotify mainly for track/playlist information and relies on other sources/tools such as yt dlp for obtaining the audio, so it is not simply extracting the original Spotify audio stream

The main problem with saving Spotify music for a trip is that offline playback does not automatically give you regular audio files that can be moved to a USB drive or played in a car. For tracks you have permission to save separately, SpotiDown offers a simple browser-based option to download music from spotify to computer, with support for individual tracks, albums, and playlists without requiring additional desktop software.
Step 1: Open Spotify and find the song, album, or playlist you want to save. Click the three-dot menu, select Share, and choose Copy link.
Step 2: Open the downloader website in your browser and paste the copied Spotify link into the URL field. Start the download process and wait for the page to retrieve the available tracks.
Step 3: For an individual song, use the Download button next to the track. When working with an album or playlist, choose the available option for downloading individual tracks or saving multiple tracks together as a ZIP archive.
Step 4: After the download finishes, open your browser's Downloads folder and play one of the saved audio files. Once you have confirmed that it works correctly, you can copy it to your USB drive for offline listening.
This method keeps the workflow inside the browser and does not require you to enter your Spotify account password. When you download music from spotify to computer through a third-party service, avoid any page that asks for your login credentials, and only save music that you have permission to download.

Regular audio files are useful when music needs to be played outside a streaming app or transferred to another device. Downtify can download songs from spotify to computer by reading Spotify track, album, or playlist links, matching the music with supported audio sources, and saving the results as local files.
How to download songs from spotify to computer
- Install Docker on the Windows PC, then set up and start the application using its official Docker deployment method.
- Open its web interface in your browser and paste the Spotify track, album, or playlist link you want to process.
- Choose the audio format and other download settings you need, then start the download. MP3 is available along with FLAC, M4A, OGG, and OPUS.
- After the download finishes, open the download folder configured for the Docker container. The saved files can then be played with compatible media players or copied to other storage devices when you have permission to do so.
The program can also embed information such as the track title, artist, album, year, and cover art into downloaded files. Spotify information is used to identify the music, while the audio is matched through other supported sources rather than extracted directly from Spotify.
Pros:
- Supports individual tracks, albums, and playlists
- Provides several audio output formats
- Saves metadata and cover art with the audio
Cons:
- Requires Docker for the standard setup
- Audio matching may occasionally select a different version
- Download availability depends on the matching source

Saving a few playlists as normal audio files makes them easier to play during a trip without depending on an internet connection or a specific streaming app. SpotiFlyer is an open-source tool that works with tracks, albums, and playlists, so it can be used to download songs from spotify to computer and store the matched audio locally.
The tool does not decrypt or extract the audio stored by Spotify Premium. Instead, it uses the supplied music information to find matching audio from supported sources and saves the available result locally. This distinction is worth knowing when you download songs from spotify to computer, because some tracks may be unavailable and the resulting audio quality can differ from the version heard through Spotify.
Main Features
- Handles individual tracks, albums, and playlists.
- Saves matched audio for offline playback.
- Supports links from multiple music platforms.
- Keeps basic track information with downloaded audio.
- Suitable for preparing multiple songs before a trip.
Disadvantages
- Some tracks may not be found.
- Audio quality varies by source.
- Track matching can occasionally be inaccurate.

Zotify pulls audio streams directly from Spotify's servers. Unlike recording tools, it grabs relatively raw audio data rather than re-recording it.
- Quality & formats: Supports downloads up to 320kbps, though free accounts are capped at 160kbps. It can output mp3, ogg, opus, m4a, and more, and automatically writes metadata (album art, lyrics).
- Batch processing: It can batch-download entire playlists, albums, or even your "Liked Songs" and followed artists — very efficient if you want to download songs from Spotify to computer at scale.
Here's roughly how it works:
- Set up the environment: You need Python 3.9+ and FF mpeg (for format conversion).
- Install Zotify: Usually via pip, but note the original repo may no longer be maintained — carefully confirm which fork you're using.
- Authenticate: You need to generate a credentials.json file. Since Spotify blocked password login, this typically requires a Rust tool, which is tedious for ordinary users.
- Run the command: Enter something like zotify https://open.spotify.com/playlist/your_playlist_ID in the command line to start download songs from Spotify to computer.
If you just want to listen offline on your computer, the safest and most compliant way is to use Spotify Premium's built-in download feature. The files are encrypted and only playable inside the Spotify app, but it's the only officially allowed, zero-risk option.

Keeping a few playlists as ordinary audio files is useful when the destination device cannot use Spotify’s offline mode, such as a car stereo that reads music from a USB drive. With PurffleGrab 9.x, you can download music from Spotify to computer by submitting a music link, reviewing the detected tracks, and choosing an audio format before saving them locally.
A simple way to download music from Spotify to computer
Step 1: Get the 9.x Windows version from the official GitHub Releases page and complete the installation.
Step 2: In Spotify, copy the link for the song, album, or playlist you want to save.
Step 3: Paste the link into the program and select Analyze to retrieve the available tracks.
Step 4: Mark the tracks you want, switch to Audio, and choose MP3 or FLAC as the output format.
Step 5: Select Download and allow the selected music to be processed and saved.
Step 6: Check the completed files in the output folder. You can then move compatible audio files to a USB drive for offline playback.
The saved files are separate from Spotify Premium’s built-in offline downloads. Since the program uses the Spotify link for track information and obtains matching audio separately, verify the finished files before transferring a large playlist and only download material you are permitted to save.
