Zotify pulls audio streams directly from Spotify's servers. Unlike recording tools, it grabs relatively raw audio data rather than re-recording it.
- Quality & formats: Supports downloads up to 320kbps, though free accounts are capped at 160kbps. It can output mp3, ogg, opus, m4a, and more, and automatically writes metadata (album art, lyrics).
- Batch processing: It can batch-download entire playlists, albums, or even your "Liked Songs" and followed artists — very efficient if you want to download songs from Spotify to computer at scale.
Here's roughly how it works:
- Set up the environment: You need Python 3.9+ and FF mpeg (for format conversion).
- Install Zotify: Usually via pip, but note the original repo may no longer be maintained — carefully confirm which fork you're using.
- Authenticate: You need to generate a credentials.json file. Since Spotify blocked password login, this typically requires a Rust tool, which is tedious for ordinary users.
- Run the command: Enter something like zotify https://open.spotify.com/playlist/your_playlist_ID in the command line to start download songs from Spotify to computer.
If you just want to listen offline on your computer, the safest and most compliant way is to use Spotify Premium's built-in download feature. The files are encrypted and only playable inside the Spotify app, but it's the only officially allowed, zero-risk option.
