Battery draining quickly on laptops
My laptop's battery drains very quickly, even when I am not using resource-intensive applications or performing heavy tasks. The battery life seems significantly shorter than when I first bought the device, making it inconvenient to use without frequent recharging. I want to find out the possible causes of this rapid battery drain and how I can improve my battery life through settings, maintenance, or other troubleshooting steps. Any advice to extend my laptop's battery performance would be greatly appreciated.

Your laptop loses charge faster than when new, even during light use, so first separate active power drain from normal battery aging. In Settings > System > Power & battery, open Battery usage and check which apps consumed power in the last 24 hours or seven days. Restrict background activity for supported apps with unusually high usage. Apply Energy recommendations, select Best power efficiency, enable Energy saver, lower display brightness, and shorten screen and sleep timeouts. Then open an administrator Command Prompt, run powercfg /batteryreport, and open the HTML report. Compare Full charge capacity with Design capacity and review Recent usage. A large capacity loss points to wear rather than a Windows setting; contact the laptop manufacturer about battery service. Install Windows, firmware, and driver updates before retesting. If the battery is swollen or the case is separating, stop using and charging the laptop immediately and arrange service.
