Anyone else think Windows 11's File Explorer is getting worse with every update?
I'm not sure if it was because of an update or something I did, but something that happened to me in File Explorer is it is no longer able to rename folders. Files are renamable as always, but trying to rename a folder gives an error. I can even create new folders, but I am forced to use the default name of New Folder (or whatever the default ends up as if a folder named New Folder already exists). I have tried a huge number of things suggested by AI, but still no success. Renaming a folder through other apps (such as Visual Studio) works fine, and I can then see the changes in File Explorer. Being a tech loving person, I created a *.bat file and added it to the Context Menu to simplify renaming folders in File Explorer (although this means File Explorer isn't REALLY what is doing the renaming). I don't know whether or not doing a Windows Repair would fix this, but being someone who has done a large number of customizations, is it REALLY worth making the sacrifice of needing to reconfigure my whole machine? It may claim that only certain things are reset (which may be fine for simple people that have never made any complex or system customizations), but being a tech I have made many customizations that would be reset. Just being given a way to "reinstall" File Explorer would probably solve the problem, unfortunately, that is not an option I am aware of (although I think it should be). And even though I like the tabs, I definitely agree with you that File Explorer should be kept reasonably simple. It should serve one purpose: File Management. Anything other than that should be left to another app. If they want to add a link or button to open that app, great, but make it open another app so that File Explorer stays simple.
