All Windows Troubleshooters will not open
- Apr 21, 2026
Late last week I was trying to figure this out again. I decided to check the Microsoft Community Hubs again, just in case someone had posted a possible solution. And lo and behold there was a reply to another question similar to mine. I've copied the solution I found below, it comes from a trusted Microsoft MVP.
To start, you have to do this using the command prompt administrators option.
Type each command (msdt.exe /id .....) below independently and by itself and hit "Enter" after each line is complete. Wait for it to complete one command before moving on to the next one.

msdt.exe /id NetworkDiagnosticsNetworkAdapter

Now, not all of them will run successfully. Those that don't run successfully are not part of the current version of the troubleshooters. Also after completing the repairs I had to run each troubleshooter so they could be reset.
Hi again.....
I didn't know anyone had left replies, as I never received any notifications.
Anyways.....I tried running the administrator command prompt on each of those two commands and I got an error message along the lines of "The module 'mshml.dll' / 'shdocvw.dll was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterService was not found. Make sure that 'mshml.dll' / 'shdocvw.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again." So, no luck there.
So then I thought I'd have better luck with a clean installation. Wrong again. I attempted to do a clean install of Windows 11 using the latest Windows 11 media creation tool method from Microsoft. I only got so far and the installer stopped at a "Install driver to show hardware where to install Windows" error screen with no indication of what kind of driver is needed.
The couple of times I could get past the error message using the administrator command prompt (& no further) a screen popped up asking me what drive / partition I wanted to install Windows on. That's not the strange part. Below the question was a listing of the storage in the SSD drive and its partitions. Now when I bought this laptop it had 512 Gb of storage available. Now I was being told I had only 45Gb on the SSD drive.
Does anyone have any more thoughts on what I can do after the two above suggestions getting me just more frustrated?

So, anyways I decided a couple of days back to use the reset option with the cloud based download of Windows. Everything came back as it should EXCEPT all the trouble shooters will still not open or run.
Does anyone know what to do when you get the "Install driver to show hardware where to install Windows" error screen? If I can get that part fixed I'm more than willing to do a clean installation of Windows 11. I searched for solutions on the Internet and either my laptop didn't have the hardware or software required or in most cases the solutions didn't give enough details for me to know how to proceed. The laptops details are are at the top of my first post in this string in case PC make or other details matter in getting this issue solved.
