Why my Windows PC Unresponsive Programs

My PC frequently becomes unresponsive, with certain programs freezing or stopping altogether, making it difficult to continue working or close them properly. This issue occurs randomly and affects different applications, regardless of whether they are lightweight or heavy, and I’ve already tried restarting the system and updating the software, but the problem persists. Often, the programs do not respond to keyboard or mouse input, and I have to forcefully end the tasks through the Task Manager, which is inconvenient and disruptive. I am seeking advice to understand the underlying cause of these unresponsive programs and how to fix them to ensure smooth and reliable performance on my PC.

  • Hi Emiliasb ,

Kindly perform below mentions steps to troubleshoot.

High CPU Usage or Background Processes

    Possible Cause:

Excessive CPU usage from background services, Windows updates, antivirus scans, or third-party applications can reduce system performance and cause programs to freeze or become unresponsive.

    Recommended Solution:

    Open Task Manager → Processes

    Sort applications by CPU usage

Identify the process consuming high resources

Update, repair, reinstall, or remove the affected application if required

Check for pending Windows updates and install the latest updates

    Disk Usage Issue

    Possible Cause:

High disk activity, storage errors, or an unhealthy drive can cause delays, freezing, and slow system response.

    Recommended Solution:

Open Task Manager → Performance → Disk

If disk usage remains at 100%, check disk health

Run Windows disk repair tools to detect and fix errors

Verify SSD/HDD condition if the issue continues

    Overheating (CPU/GPU Temperature Issue)

    Possible Cause:

High CPU or GPU temperatures can reduce performance and cause applications to freeze or stop responding.

    Recommended Solution:

Clean dust from fans and improve airflow

Monitor CPU/GPU temperatures and system usage with hardware monitoring tools

Check cooling performance and hardware condition if temperatures remain high (you can download third-party tool to monitor Heat and utilization
