Shorten path for "Documents"

We recently had new PCs installed. For some reason, when I click on "Documents" in File Explorer to goes to "C" blah, blah, blah. On the machine I did an in place upgrade as well as my two machines at home it goes directly to the documents folder. How would one fix the error?

  • Hi,
about the in-place upgrade, which version did you upgrade from/to ?

Win7 Pro to Win10 Home. Pro offers no real advantages to us.

Does the problem happen on new PCs or the ones you in-place upgraded?
if Pro edition has no advantage for you, you can use Home instead.

I don't know what configurations you made in Windows 7 that caused this issue, whether or not you moved personal folders such as documents, downloads etc. to a different drive prior to upgrade.

But you can back up your user data to a different drive, delete your user account and recreate it, this might fix the issue.

Or use one of the reset/recovery methods here:

Well, here's a fine kettle of fish. I can't save any documents because the path exceeds 218 characters.
