PC freezes a LOT after upgrading to Windows 11

I noticed that my computer freezes a lot after i upgraded from windows 10 (through media creation tool btw) and i thought that it would be fixed after a few months or so and thought it was only happening with me

turns out that my friend also had the exact same problem and it wasn't unique to say the least...

what i figured from task manager is that whenever ANY of my harddrives are being used (an Old NVME card with windows on it, a SATA SSD and an HDD) the entire pc freezes

not only just used but like whenever chrome or edge are auto updating or when discord auto updates, hell... even when i open a zip file the pc freezes

had absolutely zero problems when i was in windows 10 and all this suddenly started happening and its driving me insane

here are some specs of the pc if that helps...

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X (3.60 GHz)

RAM: 16GB (2933 MHz)

GPU: GTX 1080

OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2

OS Build: 26200.7019

would love to know what changed from win10 or how do i even fix this

thanks in advance!

You should be reporting it in feedback hub if you are an Insider and its an Insider Build, and also you probably need to rollback and test it, and make sure you have all the latest drivers

Based on your description, it seems like the freezes are related to your disk usage. When any of your hard drives are being accessed, the entire system freezes. This could be due to a few possible reasons:

    1. Disk completion and retries: When Windows writes data to a disk, it can stall and wait for the disk to finish writing. If the disk is busy or experiencing issues, the system might freeze as it waits for the disk to complete its operation.
    2. Disk I/O bottlenecks: With multiple disks (NVMe, SATA SSD, and HDD) competing for resources, the system might become overwhelmed, leading to freezes.

Update all your motherboard and storage controller drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Check for Windows updates that might include important fixes.

Run a disk check on all drives to identify any errors.

Disable any unnecessary startup programs or background services to see if the problem persists.

Consider resetting or reinstalling storage drivers via Device Manager.

Look into power management settings; sometimes aggressive power saving can cause drive access issues.
