Live tiles in the Windows 10 Start menu sometimes appear as blank squares

The live tiles for some apps in the Start menu occasionally turn into blank squares and do not display any icon or live content.

After trying to re-pin the app to the Start menu or restart File Explorer, some tiles may recover, but others still fail to display properly.

If the issue persists, creating a new user account can help determine if the problem is profile-specific.

  • Hi NoahWang, this is usually the Start menu tile cache or the app package not refreshing cleanly. I would update the affected Microsoft Store apps, unpin and repin one tile as a test, then restart Explorer. If it only happens in your current profile, a new local user test can confirm whether the Start layout cache is corrupted.
