As I am one of those referred to below, and this issue started when I became an "insiders' subscriber, its reasonable that I share the following from a friend who is computer savvy : "
I know that MS intended the Insiders program to be for people that were computer savvy to assist in testing of preview updates (as this was) and provide feedback. Most of the people that are members are either not the least bit computer savvy or totally incapable of providing considered feedback. Hopefully you’re not going to get any more of these updates, but if you see anything that is ‘Preview’ or ‘Beta’ show up, I’d strongly suggest you uninstall it."
- chriscombeCopper ContributorSame issue for me too, even downloading and installing manually didn't help.
- chriscombeCopper ContributorI did find this from MS which shows you how to install the SSU part manually to get around the issue. I'm still trying to figure if it's worked out.
1. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-29-2021-kb5000842-os-builds-19041-906-and-19042-906-preview-1a58a276-6a0a-47a5-aa7d-97af2d10b16d (to extract the cab file from the manual msu file)
2. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/66346-install-cab-file-windows-10-a.html (for the CAB file installation steps) - JauharIron ContributorIndeed it is and Irony is that , that Microsoft is sitting quit and hasn't yet updated regarding the issue. Lemme know when the issue is fixed. Thanks

I tried every solution (dism , sfc...) but nothing work's.
Finally i downloaded a win 10 iso file, after that i procced with windows installation using the 1st option (Keep apps and files), this option is reserved for errors that can't be fixed with a sfc scan or dism cmds, it fixed the errors and missing files, after the installation, the update went successfully.P.S. The preferred way to download the windows, is to use the media creation tool and choose the option save iso.
- zcomtechCopper ContributorBefore make one more attempt, I recommend run the windows update troubleshooter it automatically detect and diagnose problems that may prevent or cause KB5000842 to fail to install.
Press windows key + S type troubleshoot and select first result troubleshoot settings,
Click on additional troubleshooter link,
Now locate and select windows update then click on run the troubleshooter,
Once the diagnose process completes reboot your PC and make another attempt to install the update.- chriscombeCopper ContributorWhat is the specific name of the troubleshooter you ran, I tried the Windows update one in additional troubleshooters but that didn't help identify any issues. I'll try and reboot as suggested by not holding my breath.

I now no longer see this update and instead was offered this one > KB5001330 - going to try and install that and see if it works as expected.
**bleep** that failed too with
"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0984)"
- DeadStackBrass ContributorYeah, same deal with the very latest update.
- chriscombeCopper ContributorI now have this fully fixed and working from a couple weeks back when there was a subsequent update (I'm a beta / insider user if that helps). Issue all solved for me - thanks to all who offered suggestions.

Hello!
Congratulations thanks for the information!

After many months of updates and optional updates refusing to install, and eventually Microsoft store apps starting to fail too, I did a clean install of Windows, and afterwards these updates installed straight away. So for anybody who has run out of patience like I did and you don't mind doing a clean install, I highly recommend that as the way to fix this problem.
I would caution against waiting for this to be fixed by Microsoft. Whatever is going on, it's some pretty serious corruption in Windows, because multiple updates couldn't sort this out. Don't punish yourself by waiting for a fix like I did, by the end I was really frustrated and annoyed by these updates failing and failing over and over again. I think they failed 30-50 times over the year on my PC, I manually started them many times, 8 times a month or so, and there were many times Windows tried to install them itself.
If you're sick of this rubbish like I was, try doing a clean install. It has a much better chance of success than expecting the next update to work.- Mikementions2270Copper Contributor
I too have rectified the issue, and should have updated the thread earlier.
I contacted MS support via LIVE CHAT which lead me through many attempts to fix the known issue. Nothing worked so they provided this link for MS 10 Update Assistant :
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
Fresh install and all the issues are gone.

- KineticTheoryCopper ContributorSame issue for me. I'm seeing error 0x80070002 when trying to install on Win10 OS build 19043.844. I've tried to download the update directly from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5000842 but that also fails.
- JauharIron ContributorYes So far no good news from any direction....
- DeadStackBrass ContributorFailing for me as well (error 0x8007000d), I've also tried installing manually, and that cancels. I've been seeing failed updates for several months now. It's not very pretty.
- JauharIron ContributorWe have to wait when Microsoft re-release the same update
