How do I find Windows 10 product key without cmd?
I recently needed to find Windows 10 product key, but I don't want to use the command prompt (cmd) method. I wonder if there are other simpler ways, such as directly checking in the system settings, or using third-party software? I didn't record the key before, and now I want to reinstall the system, so I'm a little anxious. Has anyone encountered a similar situation and can recommend some practical methods? Thank you!

If you have an OEM product key (which is often the case with pre-built PCs or laptops), that key is locked to your machine’s hardware—as in, it’s tethered to your motherboard. If you're thinking about swapping out your motherboard (maybe you’re upgrading or fixing something), you're pretty much out of luck. That key will not work anymore. I learned this the hard way when I tried to upgrade my gaming rig, and I had to buy a new license.
When it comes to finding Windows 10 product key, not all methods are guaranteed to work. You might rely on command line tools or third-party software like Product Key Finder, but sometimes they don’t show you the key, or they pull up the wrong key if there are multiple Windows installations (like on dual-boot systems). I once had a friend who got mixed up because the tool pulled an old key from a different OS install, and it didn’t work for his current setup. Confusion central! - RoanaqiomCopper ContributorA lot of people don’t realize that if you upgraded to Windows 10 for free, you might not have a traditional product key at all. Instead, Microsoft could have linked your digital license to your Microsoft account. If you used that, you can simply sign into that account after a reinstall, and Windows should activate without needing a key! So, don’t stress if you don’t see a key in your email or box; just check your Microsoft account.
If you bought a physical copy of Windows, your product key is often on a sticker inside the box. But sometimes you might be tempted to toss that packaging away. I get it—it looks like junk! But before you do that, give it a quick check. That key is vital if you want to reinstall or repair your Windows! - MooreJessiraeCopper Contributor
AlejandroSmith Unlike a Retail key, which can be transferred to another PC if you deactivate it on the first, an OEM key is tied to the hardware (specifically the motherboard) of the device. If you change the motherboard, the OEM key will likely no longer work, requiring a new Windows license.
For OEM licenses embedded in the system’s firmware, you may not see a sticker with the key, but the system detects it automatically during reinstallation. Tools like Product Key Finder can retrieve it, or you can find Windows 10 product key with cmd through Command Prompt with:
wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey
OEM keys are cost-effective but with restricted flexibility compared to Retail licenses, making them ideal for pre-built systems meant for long-term use without hardware changes.

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product key for Windows 10 is a unique activation key that comes pre-installed on devices by manufacturers like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. And it is quite hard to find Windows 10 product key shipped by an OEM.
OEM keys are typically pre-installed on devices sold by major manufacturers and are intended to activate Windows only on the device it was sold with. This key is embedded in the system BIOS/UEFI of the device, so the system can automatically activate Windows when it’s reinstalled.

AlejandroSmith If the above methods did not work, then you should give a try on the product key finder software.
Product key finder software is a type of utility tool designed to help users locate and retrieve software product keys, including those for operating systems like Windows, as well as other installed software programs. These tools are particularly useful if you have lost or forgotten your product key and need it for reinstallation, activation, or transferring your software to a new computer.
The software scans your computer’s registry or other system files to locate and display the product keys of installed software. And it typically supports a wide range of software products, including different versions of Windows, Microsoft Office, Adobe products, and other popular applications.
These tools are widely used by individuals and IT professionals alike to recover windows 10 product key, especially when reinstalling software or performing system upgrades.

You can use some third-party tools like ProduKey and Belarc Advisor, which can read the product key in the system. The operation is also very simple and directly recover Windows 10 product key.
- AsspenCopper ContributorIf you've got a pre-built computer, sometimes the product key is embedded in the firmware. A big mistake would be assuming it's not there just because you can't see it. Turn on your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2 or Delete during boot). You might find windows 10 product key there! It's like finding a surprise in the bottom of a cereal box—pleasantly unexpected.

If you purchased a physical copy of Windows 10, the product key is typically printed on a sticker. This sticker might be affixed to your PC, especially if Windows came pre-installed, or it could be found inside the packaging of the Windows 10 box.
On the other hand, if you purchased Windows 10 online, your product key would usually be included in the email receipt sent to you at the time of purchase or stored in your Microsoft account, which is accessible whenever you need to reinstall or activate Windows.
These are very simple ways to recover windows 10 product key if you could not find it anymore!

If your Windows is pre-installed, the product key will often be attached to the bottom of the computer or on the box, especially on desktops and laptops. Check carefully to see if there is one. There are many ways to find Windows 11 product key without cmd, google it!
- SamuelJohnsonCopper ContributorIf you purchased Windows 10 online, Microsoft usually includes a product key in the confirmation email. You may find it by searching for related emails in your mailbox. This is how I found my Windows 10 product key before.
I feel that this is a method that is easy to overlook. Many people may forget that they received an email. So if you have also purchased online, you may find it by searching your mailbox!
