Diagnosing slow explorer with shell integrations
I have a nagging issue with Windows Explorer, that it sometimes takes seconds to a minute to respond. Right clicking on large folders like Downloads or opening any directory that has many zip files seem to be the culprit. Often any zip that was just downloaded will be very non-responsive.
I am using shell integrations, notable Google Drive File Stream, and TortoiseGit. But I have tried disabling and it does not seem to go away. I have configured them to be as fast as possible. This happens on non-git/ drive folders so I'm not sure who is at fault. The CPU usage and drive usage do not spike, there seems to be no reason for the non-responsiveness.
How can I go about narrowing it down?

You could try to disable Shell Extensions
Download, unzip and execute Autoruns (64 or 32 bit) as admin:open Optionsselect Hide Microsoft entriestab Explorerdeselect all items and close the programCheck if your problem is goneSpigolo Thanks for that tip. I did find some ones pointing to removed programs. So I removed those.
then I disabled all of them as you instructed.
The problem is still there. So this suggests some problem not related to extensions. Anyone care to point me where to look next?
I have already:
1. Rebuilt search index
2. Reset all folder settings
3. Cleared explorer history
4. Run sfc
Don't get me wrong, but scan the system with MalwareBytes, just to be sure to be clean.
Do you open zips with the integrated feature or with a separate app?
