Can I print text messages from android for court on my PC?
Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming court hearing and I need to print out text message conversations from my Android phone to use as evidence. I'm hoping to do this from my Windows PC, but I have no idea where to start and want to make sure the output is accurate and presentable for legal purposes.
Here's my situation:
- I have an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and a Windows 10 PC
- I need to print specific text message threads as evidence for court
- I'm not very tech-savvy, so I want to avoid anything too complicated
- The printout needs to look credible and include key details like timestamps, contact names, and phone numbers
What is the best way to print text messages from Android for court in 2026? I want to make sure I do this correctly the first time since it's for a legal matter.

ADB enables you to connect your Android phone to a computer via USB and run commands to access the phone's file system. You don't need to install any apps on your phone or rely on cloud services, except for enabling the hidden Developer Options on your phone. As for printing, you can use ADB to print text messages from Android phone for court use.
Step 1: Install ADB on Your Computer
-Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your computer (e. g., C:\adb).
Step 2: Enable USB Debugging on Your Phone
-Open Settings on your Android phone.
-Go to About Phone and find the Build Number.
-Tap the Build Number seven times until you see a message that says "You are now a developer!".
-Go back to Settings and open System > Developer Options.
-Turn on USB Debugging.
Step 3: Connect and Verify the Connection
-Open the folder where you extracted ADB (e. g., C:\adb).
-Right-click in a blank space while holding Shift and select "Open PowerShell window here" or "Open command window here".
-Type the following command to see if your device is connected:
cmd
adb devices
Look at your phone screen. You will see a pop-up asking you to "Allow USB debugging?" Check the box and tap Allow. You should now see your device listed as "device."
Step 4: Export the Messages to a File
-Now you will tell ADB to pull the data from the SMS database and save it to a text file on your computer. -Type the following command:
cmd
adb shell content query --uri content//sms/ > messages .txt
This command does two things:
1. It asks the phone to dump the contents of its internal SMS database.
2. The > symbol saves this output to a file named messages.txt on your computer.
Step 5: Access and Print the File
-Open the ADB folder ( e .g., C:\adb). You will find the messages .txt file there.
-Double-click to open it with Notepad or WordPad.
-You can now print text messages from Android for court from your computer.

Using the Copy-and-Paste method if you want to print text messages from Android phone. This method uses only the basic functions of your phone and a computer. No special apps or developer tools are required.
The process involves manually copying the text from each message or conversation on your phone and pasting it into a document on your computer, which you can then print.
How to print text messages from Android phone:
- On your Android phone, open the messaging conversation you want to save.
- Long-press on a message bubble to select it, then use the options to select the entire conversation.
- Copy all the selected text.
- Email the copied text to yourself, paste it directly into a cloud document like Google Docs, or transfer it to your computer via a USB cable.
- Once the text is on your computer, you can open it in any word processor (like Microsoft Word) and print it.
While this method fits your strict criteria, it has major limitations that make it impractical for most needs.
- Extremely Time-Consuming for Long Conversations: Manually copying and pasting each conversation thread is a slow, hands-on process. If you have many messages to print, this method will take a very long time.
- Loss of Formatting and Context: This method usually only captures the plain text. You will lose the original chat bubbles, timestamps, contact photos, emojis, and any pictures or videos that were part of the conversation. What you can print text messages from Android phone, which can be difficult to read and may lack important context.

If this is for legal purposes of court hearing, go with SMS Backup & Restore to ensure timestamps and sender info are preserved.

Another popular way to print text messages from Android phone is using the Microsoft Phone Link app on Windows 11/10. Once linked via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, it gives you access to your phone's messages, calls, notifications, and apps right from your computer screen
To print text messages from Android phone using Phone Link, you simply open the Messages section within the app on your PC, find the conversation you want, and copy the text content. From there, you paste it into a Word document or any text editor, format it however you like, and print it from your PC.
While it requires a bit of manual copying for longer conversations, it gives you full control over how your messages are presented on the printed page — making it a solid middle-ground option between the simplicity of Google Messages Web and the full export power of SMS Backup & Restore.
Pros
- Completely free with no additional downloads needed on Windows 10/11
- Natively built into Samsung Galaxy S24 via the Link to Windows feature
- Works wirelessly over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
- Gives you full control over formatting before printing
- Also provides access to calls, notifications, and phone apps on your PC
Cons
- Requires manual copying and pasting, which is tedious for long conversations
- No direct one-click print function like Google Messages Web
- Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection can occasionally be unstable
- Does not preserve metadata automatically when pasted into a document
- Not ideal for legal use without additional formatting effort

KDE Connect is a free tool that connects your Android phone and computer over your local Wi-Fi network . It is not a backup app, a screenshot tool, or a cloud-based service. Instead, it creates a direct, peer-to-peer link between your devices with no third-party servers involved .
The key feature for your needs: KDE Connect can sync your text messages directly to your computer, where you can view them, copy them, and paste them into a document for printing.

- Tap "Request Pairing"
- On your computer, accept the pairing request

- This permission enables the message-syncing feature

If KDE Connect doesn't work well on your network, scrcpy is another open-source option for you print text messages from Android phone. It mirrors your entire Android screen to your computer via USB. From there, you could view your messages on the mirrored screen and print using your computer's standard print functions. However, scrcpy is more technical to set up than KDE Connect.

SMS Backup & Restore. I used this app twice for exporting and printing sms from Android phone.
It is a free Android app available on the Google Play Store that lets you save your Samsung Galaxy S24 text messages as PDF or XML files, which can then be transferred to your PC for printing. It's especially useful for long conversations or situations where you need a complete, organized record of your messages, such as for legal or court purposes.
Once installed, open the app and tap Back Up to select the specific conversations you want to save. The app will generate a PDF file of your messages, complete with timestamps, contact names, and phone numbers. You can then transfer the file to your PC via USB cable, Google Drive, or email.
On your PC, simply open the PDF file in any PDF viewer like Adobe Acrobat or your browser, and print Android text messages like any normal document. Because the exported file preserves all message metadata, this method produces the cleanest and most professional-looking printout of all the available options — making it the top choice when accuracy and completeness matter most.

Screenshots + Google Drive:
To print text messages from Android phone without any extra software, you can rely entirely on the phone’s built-in screenshot function and Google’s free cloud tools.
The Steps:
1. Capture the conversation: Open the messaging thread you want to save. Take scrolling or multiple screenshots of the entire conversation until you have captured every message you need. Most Android phones use Power + Volume Down to take a screenshot.
2. Save to the cloud: Open the Google Photos app (which comes pre-installed on almost all Android phones). Find the screenshots you just took. Select them and tap the Share icon, then choose "Save to Drive" (Google’s free cloud storage). This uploads the images to your Google account.
3. Access on your computer: On your Windows PC or Mac, open a web browser and go to google. Sign into the same Google account you used on your phone.
4. Compile and print: Download the screenshot images to your computer. You can then drag them into a blank Microsoft Word document or Google Doc, arranging them in the correct order. Once the layout looks how you want, you are ready to print text messages from Android phone directly from your computer's printer.
This method is popular because it uses only standard Android features. You don't need to install any "SMS printer" apps, connect your phone to a printer via cable, or pay for a premium service. The formatting is also visually clear—what you see in the screenshots is exactly what gets printed, preserving the look of the chat bubbles and timestamps.
