Extended Security Updates in CSP
Hi Community,
We are an Indirect Provider and we need to clarify our options regarding Extended Security Updates through the CSP channel.
Even though I have not found an official Microsoft announcement on this, this blog article refers that and i quote "Starting September 2023, Microsoft will offer the Extended Security Updates for Windows Server 2012/2012R2 as well as SQL Server 2012 as a month-by-month Pay-as-you-Go option. Customers will need to enroll their applicable servers in Azure Arc and do need to have an Azure subscription as a payment mechanism (this can be an Azure subscription through a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) Partner). With this new option, Extended Security Updates finally come into reach of SMB customers. For pricing, aim at 75% of the license price per year, divided by 12 for a rough indication of the monthly price. Exact pricing will be published in September on the Azure website".
This is a really critical point for us. Could you please enlight us when and how we will be able to utilize this new ESU PAYG option via CSP?
Thank you in advance for your significant input.
Best regards,
Nick
Hi nick_Anag
ESUs via Azure Arc thorugh CSP are are available from 1 September 2023 onwards and the license-based option will be available from October 2023 onwards. All you need to do is onboard the servers to Azure Arc and for Windows server you create a license assignment and apply it to the Arc VMs. For SQL you just enable ESUs from the SQL configuration blade in the portal.
Here's an official doc stating it:

- nick_AnagIron ContributorHi there,
I know that the details are being included in my post, however the post comes from an internet blog article and not from an official Microsoft resource or announcement. That is why we are reaching out for your official guidance on this!
Kindly move it where you deem appropriate, but please include the appropriate colleague of yours to officially reply to my pretty clear point regarding the availability of ESU through CSP channel.

Hi nick_Anag
Per my previous reply, please click on the documentation and FAQ that is included in the announcement. Once you do so, you will find that you're taken to Microsoft documentation.
I will disengage since you now know how to retrieve the official documentation that you're looking for. If you have additional questions about Windows server, I'm confident that someone here on the Windows Server community can assist.
