Glint is not user-friendly to set up at all
I am not even finished importing my users, and already I am searching for a different EX tool to use. This has been the most admin-intensive config experience I have encountered when setting up any kind of HMS/related tool. I have Googled all my issues because it is impossible to find a straightforward answer on Glint. There is no logic to the import and user-management structure. It feels like Microsoft bought Glint and didn't bring over the entire team who built it, just the surface-level design team.
- Employees will report to whoever the organisation says they do, and your system cannot override that because it doesn't make sense to you. Circular reporting can't be fixed by removing the email address of the CEO. The highest person in the organisation still has to report to someone for the purposes of EX data. Stop imposing your organisational rules on the system structure.
- There has to be a better way to reinstate users instead of having to import an entire new sheet? Surely there is an archive functionality, and users can be reactivated on the system? I had to delete 2 support users because they kept creating errors on the employee import sheet for reporting lines, and now I can't reinstate them.
This has been the most frustrating experience and such a waste of time. Does anyone have a simple 'Glint How-To' doc I can reference to get going, because I cannot waste another day on this.

Hi Lauren,
The user import is probably the trickiest part of a Viva Glint setup, so you’re not alone. I used to work at Glint and have implemented quite a few, so hopefully this helps.
Top of the hierarchy: Leave the Manager ID blank for your CEO, rather than them reporting to themselves or someone outside the file. That’s how Glint knows where the org tree starts.
Support users: Keep them in the file with a valid manager (e.g. your HR lead), then exclude them from surveys with an attribute filter.
Reinstating users: Instead of deleting, set Status to INACTIVE, then back to ACTIVE when needed. For the two you’ve deleted, try re-adding them with the same Employee ID, or raise a ticket with Microsoft support if it still errors - Microsoft does have support, you just have to be a Microsoft Admin Center (MAC) user to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/viva/glint/contact-support/get-support-viva-glint
How-to: The https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/viva/glint/introduction-viva-glint is the best place to start, especially the sections on preparing and uploading your employee file.
Partner support: It’s also worth knowing Microsoft has a network of Viva Glint partners who handle setup like this every day. A partner can take care of the file prep, hierarchy and configuration for you, and help with survey design and reporting once you’re up and running. You can find the full list of partners here

Hi Lauren, this is probably not an option as you’d be doing it, but can you link Glint to your HRIS? We’ve connected to workday (API plug in) and it means data is automated twice a week in the backend.
