Sharing lists with others outside your organization
I recently decided to finally move from Wunder to To-do .
It is a work account but I also have some personal lists to share with my wife (Ie.g. groceries).
How do I share lists with her? if I invite her she gets an error as she is not part of my work organization /group.
Do I need two separate accounts or something (ugh) - how would that work in the app?

This does now work if you share from the personal account to the organisation account. However, testing this this afternoon it only seems to sync 1 way. As in the personal account can add items, complete them etc. but the organisation account can only view. You can't add items that the personal account can see and you can't complete any. If that's correct, what's the point of that??
Can Microsoft update please?
Thanks

If you create the list on the account that is the personal one, then share with the person inside the organization, it works. It doesn't work the other way. All of my shared lists with my wife are this way. We're headed out grocery shopping now, and it works like a charm:-) sdimond

I find this as frustrating as any and I don't mean to be the defender of Microsft but... There are security concerns with work version of ToDo. The last thing anyone needs, including Microsoft, is someone hacking their way in to a corporate system through a personal ToDo list. It is doable but not as easy as flipping a switch.
Another concern is that there are, allegedly, features in the work version that are not available in the personal version. That is not as hard of a fix but it still needs to be addressed.

This app is a waste of time for home or personal use. I'm sure it works fine if both people are in the same Office 365 organization and want to share a work to-do list, or are both members of the same company wanting to share things with each other, but for home use people migrating from Wunderlist, just use Todoist instead of waiting for this to get sorted out. From what I see trying to move from Wunderlist to Microsoft To Do is another Microsoft permissions/group membership/inter-domain federation quagmire to wade through and there are simpler apps that do this much more easily... you don't have to jump through any silly hoops to make it work.
- JeffBridgesCopper ContributorFor folks like me who are looking for alternatives, I’ve been trying out Any.Do and my wife AnnMarie is enjoying AnyList on the iPhone, though we will likely settle on Any.do.

Same problem. Shared Wunderlists with family and friends. WHY is it this idiotic?
How can we get MS to listen? Bad reviews om App Store? Other?

Microsoft
Apologies for the late response. We are working on opening up the limitations on sharing. We don't have a timeframe for it yet, but we are working hard on it. The workaround at the moment is to create a personal account, with Android and Windows you can switch between accounts quickly. Again, we're working on bringing that account switching capability to other platforms too. We appreciate your patience. The response times on Tech Community are a little slower so if you don't get a response again, please do reach out to us over on Twitter or Facebook, or via our in-app support. Hi Polly, Thanks for your reply of 23 April. Polly Davidson
Is there an update on this please? as a company we used wunderlist precisely because we could share with our contractors, suppliers, outsourced functions (IE different domains) our lists of tasks etc.
To-Do is OK, but this key function seems to have been stripped out. It's debilitating for modern work practices in the SME community...
Thanks,
JW
- henrymatterCopper ContributorThanks for the update and suggestion.
I appreciate the delay but so you think you could keep the MS forums/discussions updated rather than is having to reach out on socials.
Is there a way to move lists from one account to another? I have loads of lists already in my organisation account and need to move the to a personal one in order for your suggestion to work.
Thanks

Agree! This is a problem. My wife and I both have two small businesses.
Using the Iphone and computer we both have our separate organizations.
I don't understand the logic.
We both have two separate paid accounts.
How sharing could be an issue?
RED FLAG MICROSOFT!! IS ANY ONE LISTENING??

From what I see...no... nobody is listening! I am currently exploring other apps to use though.
- TQFordBrass ContributorThanks, of course if you do that you cant sync to the MS account Outlook calendar, and i cant change that (mandated).
- Ron4414Copper ContributorThis problem is annoying, but there is a work around. If you use a non-Microsoft email address (eg gmail), then you can share with anyone.

Ron4414 Could you please explain more this workaround using gmail?

Wow, is 05-14-21 and Microsoft has still not added this capability. I understand that MS wants to have organizations assign a license per user; otherwise this can be a work around. But at least allow to share the list and prevent editing capabilities...
Ron4414 this is only a work around as long as no one uses a work account. But it doesn’t solve the problem when at least 1 person uses a work account. That is my situation- I share lists at work and I also want to share lists at home.

Hi - I have a work microsoft account but realised that i have an personal microsoft account tied to my personal gmail/android setup used for Skype/Wunderlist.The issue i have is that i have imported all my lists into a Work ToDo account that i don't need, and can't import into the second personal account that i have set up.
this is typical “old school” Microsoft. Some groups just don’t get that not everyone works in a single, large organisation. ToDo seems to have the same tenant issues as Teams. Don’t even get me started on OneDrive. What is sad is MS purchased a great product like Wunderlist, and then dumbed it down into a single tenant tool.
- AaronFParksCopper ContributorYes, I agree. I'm not sure how they were able to take an amazing product Luke Wunderlist and basically remove the most useful features. It is very frustrating! I'm looking forward to at least being able to share lists outside of our organization.
